When I first read this story I had not yet read Legion of Light (1st Book in Legion of Light Tetralogy) and was not tuned into the bigger picture Legion of Light provides. In retrospect this story is certainly more intense than my first assessment. Even as this solitary soldier recognizes he is more prey than predator he focuses on survival facing his duty without question. Although it is a stand alone short the reader can better appreciate the story as an element of the Legion world. As always, Menadue offers a crisp clean writing style that's easy to read.Product details

I am still stunned that several of these titles are free.
Again, Menadue makes every aspect of a story come to life and become very, very, real to the reader. He has great ability as a writer and I have enjoyed, and continue to enjoy, all of his titles. My one "criticism" would be that, in light of the obvious talent and creativity of this author, I would like to see a full length novel (as the summer approaches and I need something to take away on vacation).
No-one who downloads and reads this book will be disappointed -- so again, FIVE STARS!
There is a great atmosphere to this short story, a reminder that the true fanatics may not be who you might think. In a world of ideological struggle what dastardly deeds are not committed in the name of the one true God? When there are several such Gods vying for position there are bound to be paranoia, lies and disastrous consequences. In this short story CM manages to capture the essence of all such wars and issue a chilling warning of the inevitable end to all such fanaticism. I recommend this as a good read.
