An erotic tale that unfolds in an imaginative, otherworldly context. Sex, politics, power and gender all collide in book 2 of this intriguing series. A beautifully written fantasy, with a story to be told on many levels. Vivid characters, action, and drama make this an engaging read.
This review is for The Golden Sword (The Silistra Quartet Book 2) I am a big fan of book 1 and knew I had to get this one the second it came out. I’m a big time fantasy reader and this one was right up my alley. I loved the characters, the steamy romance, the action, and especially the drama. Estri was very courageous and brave and I really enjoyed the mythology of it all. Fantastic! I highly recommend!
Science fiction and history blend together in book 2 of this fantastical and sensual adventure. A series of books worth collecting and now available in digital format as well.
THE GOLDEN SWORD is the second book in the SIlistra Quartet. Having read the first book, THE HIGH COUCH OF SILISTRA, I was thrilled to meet the heroine, Estri, and have her adventurous, fun character revealed to me anew. Telling her story, she has a unique way of forging her volunrability and misfortune into strength. “I had found myself, naked but for cloak and chald, upon my back in the Parset desert, looking up at the constellations of the night sky of Silistra.”

Told by Estri herself, this is, perhaps, the most intimate story I have read by Janet morris, whose writing is always eloquent and whose world vision so amazingly imaginative, in both its futuristic and mythological strains. I feel Estri as if she were me, as if I touch the other characters through the palms of her hands “I rubbed the knots of anger from his back until his breathing eased, until the muscles no longer twisted under my hands, until he slept at last.”

The best part of her is being resilient. “Those great jaws closed upon my shoulder. I twisted back my head and bit out Uritheria’s throat.” So beware her trials are not for the faint of heart.

Janet Morris has written more books than most people have read, and she has written better books than most writers have written. High Couch of Silistra was a high intensity revelation of the sexual depth and complexities of women, especially women of courage, power and daring; This is a worthy successor. A lot of the fun of a series is in the first volume in which an inventive set up is laid out. Far too many series start great but fall down in the second book because all the fun stuff has been laid out in the first. Not so here. Silistra is a big enough world that it has revelations for more than one book, or two. Estri is a brilliant and daring character, whether racing a threx, fighting with a sword or messing minds in her own inimitable way. She fights and loves her way across deserts, into the mountains, and cities, and this one ends in the cliff hanger of all cliff hangers..
Good stuff.
