This takes everything about typical fantasy books and turns it into pure comic genius. The jokes and cliche's are truly hilarious. Who deftly flexes their beefy pancreas? There are things in this book that will make you laugh till you cry. Oddly enough, despite the comedy of it all, there is still a decent plot buried in there. It's not a big book. A dedicated reader can polish it off in a day, but the more you read it, the more jokes hit you in the face.Tags : The Screaming Codpiece: Extreme Magnitude Edition (The Pillars of Gnarr) (Volume 15) [R.L. Stupid. Best part is the title.
Okay read
Fight your way free of the tropes of the Fantasy genre and see them slain in beefy quantities in this satirical send up.
The only thing that can save the world can also destroy it -- the Screaming Cod piece. Join Nectar the Barbarian as he fights to control both his groin and the power of the codpiece whose evil is slowly trying to take him over.
This is the canvas upon which all the tired fantasy plots are finally burnt to a crisp. If you enjoy off-beat tongue-in-cheek humor you're sure to enjoy this quest to finally slay the ridiculous worn devices that plague the fantasy genre. However, The Screaming Codpiece delivers this with I-can't-believe-he-went-there moments that will have you shaking your head and laughing out loud at the same time.
I was trolling for Dungeons and Dragons books for my son when I stumbled on this book.
I don't know the writer and this is not a planted review.
I have never laughed to tears while reading a book before but The Screaming Codpiece has changed that.
It's tongue in cheek, campy, laden with innuendos and is brilliantly written. To be honest I am only halfway through. But this book is so damned funny when the chance to review it came up, I jumped with my hulking quads in a fury of destruction to do so.
This book is awesome. The Gods of Tardblivia will flex their lats in approval if you buy this brilliant work.
Cheers,
Travis
it's a quick and funny read. Great for the can!
The hero is Nectar the Barbarian, and his "rippling brains", "well-oiled pecs", and "very slight error in battle strategy"--not to mention the menacing thrust of his hips--propel The Screaming Codpiece forward. But my favorite character is Terrence.
On page 25, Terrence the Ranger dies. But that doesn't hold him back. Throughout the rest of the story, his body is used as a shield, a grappling hook, a doorstop, a weapon, and is finally made Duke of Dunghaven. I'm not spoiling anything, either, because Terence's journey is just one facet in this gem of a satire. This book is an in-your-face, over-the-top, codpiece-to-the-wall spoof of fantasy books. All the tropes and cliches found in sword-and-sorcery stories are hilariously skewered in this book. And it makes fun of fantasy authors, too--be sure to read the Acknowledgments, About the Author, and all the front- and back matter, because they are just as funny as the story itself.
Full disclosure R.L. McSterlingthong and I are lifelong friends. In college, we adapted Everyone Poops as an off-Broadway musical. Reviews were mixed.
Everyone should read this
